MUNCIE—Ball State University and phase one of the McKinley Safety Improvement Project, the construction project that reshaped the face of Ball State from Riverside Avenue to Petty Road over the summer months in 2005, have received two state awards.

The American Council of Engineering COmpanies of Indiana honored Ball State with the 2006 Engineering Excellence Merit Award, which was presented to Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations, facilities planning and management.

Ball State was granted the award through the efforts of the project design team Rundell Ernstberger Associates and Butler, Fairman and Seufert, who submitted the project for consideration.

The project was also honored with an Indiana Partnership for Highway Quality Achievement Award for 2006 from the Indiana Department of Transportation. The recipients of the award were Ball State; Rundell Ernstberger Associates, Butler, Fairman and Seufert, and E & B Paving.
